HEASARC Archive |
The radio observations and data reduction are detailed in Papers I-III of this series:
I = Norris et al., 2005, AJ, 130, 1358; II = Huynh et al., 2005, AJ, 130, 1373, available at the HEASARC as the ATHDFS1P4G table; III = Huynh et al., 2007, AJ, 133, 1331, available at the HEASARC as the ATHDFSCCAT and ATHDFS3FRQ tables.Palunas et al. (2000, ApJ, 541, 61) observed the HDF-S region using the Big Throughput Camera (BTC) on the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) 4m during 1998 September. Images were taken in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) u, Johnson B and V, and Cousins R and I filters. In addition, the authors obtained spectra of the ATHDF-S radio sources over two service nights in 2001 July and 2003 October using the multi-fiber 2dF instrument of the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT). They acquired low-resolution (9 Angstrom) spectra over the wavelength range from 3800 to 8000 Angstroms.

Redshift
The spectroscopic redshift z of the counterpart derived from the
2dF low-resolution spectrum. Redshifts were obtained for 98 out of the 268
targeted sources.
Redshift_Flag
This flag parameter represents the quality Q of the 2dF
spectroscopy from which the redshift was obtained.
A value of 3 indicates three or more lines were identified, and hence
the redshift is very well determined. Two, one or no lines identified
are indicated by Q values of 2, 1 or 0, respectively.
H_Beta_Flux_Limit
This parameter is set to '<' if the corresponding
parameter value is an upper limit rather than an actual measurement.
H_Beta_Flux
The H-beta line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical
counterpart to the radio source as measured in the 2dF spectrum.
H_Beta_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD
counts.
O_III_Flux_Limit
This parameter is set to '<' if the corresponding
parameter value is an upper limit rather than an actual measurement.
O_III_Flux
The O III 5007-Angstrom line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical
counterpart to the radio source as measured in the 2dF spectrum.
O_III_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD
counts.
H_Alpha_Flux
The H-alpha line flux, in CCD Counts, of the optical
counterpart to the radio source measured in the 2dF spectrum.
H_Alpha_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD
counts.
N_II_Flux_Limit
This parameter is set to '<' if the corresponding
parameter value is an upper limit rather than an actual measurement.
N_II_Flux
The N II 6584-Angstrom Line Flux line flux, in CCD Counts, of the
optical counterpart to the radio source measured in the 2dF spectrum.
N_II_Flux_Error
The uncertainty in the corresponding line flux, in CCD
counts.
Spectra_Comments
This parameter contains comments on the optical 2dF
spectra, including which lines were observed.
Broad_Type
A broad classification of the optical spectrum of
the counterpart to the radio source, given for those 98 sources
for which spectroscopic redshifts were obtained (this field is left
blank for the remaining 375 sources), and coded as follows:
abs = galaxy with absorption-line spectrum (22/98 = 22%) sf = star-forming galaxy (36/98 = 37%) sy = Seyfert galaxy (6/98 = 6%) BL = broad-line AGN (7/98 = 7%) unc = unclassified object
Class
The HEASARC Browse object classification based on the value of the
broad_type parameter.
