BOOTESDF - Bootes Deep Field WSRT 1.4-GHz Source Catalog

HEASARC
Archive

Overview

This radio source catalog is the result of deep (16x12 hour) Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) observations of the approximately 7 square degree Bootes Deep Field, centered at an RA and Declination (J2000) of 14 hr 32 min 5.75 sec, +34 deg 16 arcmin 47.5 arcsec. The survey consisted of 42 discrete pointings, with enough overlap to ensure a uniform sensitivity across the entire field, and with a limiting sensitivity of 28 microJansky (1 sigma rms). The catalog consists of 3172 distinct sources detected with a significance of 5 sigma or greater, of which 316 are resolved by the 13 x 27 arcsec beam.

Provenance

This database table was created by the HEASARC in December 2001 based on the a data file obtained from the authors' FTP site (no longer available). It was modified slightly in March 2011 (using the CDS data file https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/ftp/cats/J/AJ/123/1784/catalog.dat) to make the source names adhere to the naming convention of the Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects.

Parameters

Name
The position-based source designation, slightly modified by the HEASARC from that used in the original table by the addition of the prefix "DMR2002 ". This prefix is based on the initials of the last names of the first three authors and the (expected) 2002 publication date, and follows the standard naming convention of the Dictionary of Nomenclature of Celestial Objects.

RA
The Right Ascension in the selected equinox of the radio source. This was given in J2000 coordinates and to a precision of 0.01 seconds of time in the original table.

Dec
The Declination in the selected equinox of the radio source. This was given in J2000 coordinates and to a precision of 0.1 arcseconds in the original table.

LII
The Galactic Longitude of the radio source.

BII
The Galactic Latitude of the radio source.

Error_Radius
The positional uncertainty, in arcseconds.

Source_Flag
A source structure flag which has the following possible values:

          S = unresolved by 27.0x13.5 arcsec beam
          M = resolved, with up to 4 Gaussian components
          E = resolved, with more than 4 Gaussian components

Flux_22_cm
The integrated 1.4 GHz (22 cm) flux density of the radio source, in milliJansky (mJy).

Flux_22_cm_Error
The error in the integrated 1.4 GHz (22 cm) flux density of the radio source, in milliJansky (mJy), including both the systematic and the statistical errors.

RMS_22_cm
The local sky RMS at 1.4 GHz (22-cm), in milliJansky (mJy).

Major_Axis
The major axis of the apparent angular extent of the 2.5 sigma contour, in arcseconds. Sources with a ratio of major to minor axis of about 2, and a position angle of about 0 degrees, are considered barely resolved.

Minor_Axis
The minor axis of the apparent angular extent of the 2.5 sigma contour, in arcseconds. Sources with a ratio of major to minor axis of about 2, and a position angle of about 0 degrees, are considered barely resolved.

Position_Angle
The position angle of the major axis of the apparent angular extent of the 2.5 sigma contour, in degrees.

Largest_Ang_Size
The inferred largest angular size (LAS) of the radio source, in arcseconds. Resolved sources are deconvolved with the beam size, while point source sizes are approximated by:

        LAS = Beam Size x [0.042 + (6.0/SNR)2]^(1/4)
