SWBAT105M - Swift-BAT 105-Month All-Sky Hard X-Ray Survey |
HEASARC Archive |
The data reduction, analysis, and catalog generation of the Swift-BAT 105-month survey (between 2004 December and 2013 August) are conducted following the same procedures as in the Swift-BAT 70-month survey (Baumgartner+ 2013, J/ApJS/207/19). The catalog includes 1632 hard X-ray sources detected across the entire sky. Of these 1632 sources, 422 are new detections with respect to the 70-month catalog, and 320 are reported as hard X-ray sources for the first time. The Swift-BAT 105-month survey catalog contains 947 non-beamed AGNs detected in the hard X-ray band.
The authors inspected soft X-ray images provided by Swift-XRT (3-10keV), Chandra (2-10keV), ASCA (2-10keV), and XMM-Newton (4-10keV) for the newly detected sources when available using 15 arcmin of matching radius. See section 2.1 of the paper for further explanations.

Source_Number
The Swift-Bat Survey identification number, which is unique for each source
in the catalog. The provided index is the same as that of the 70-month
catalog. For the new detections, the index is assigned in the order of
increasing right ascension.
Name
The Swift-BAT source designation (SWIFT JHHMM.m+DDMMA or SWIFT
JHHMMSS.s+DDMMSS). For the sources that have been previously published (i.e.,
the 70-month Swift-BAT catalog), the corresponding BAT name is used.
RA
The Right Ascension of the Swift-BAT source, given in J2000.0 decimal degrees
to a precision of 10-8 degrees in the originating table. epoch.
Dec
The Declination of the Swift-BAT source, given in J2000.0 decimal degrees to
a precision of 10-8 degrees in the originating table.
LII
The Galactic longitude of the Swift-BAT source. This parameter has been added
by the HEASARC and is derived from the J2000.0 source position.
BII
The Galactic latitude of the Swift-BAT source. This parameter has been added
by the HEASARC and is derived from the J2000.0 source position.
SNR
The signal-to-noise ratio, which is the ratio between the highest pixel value
of the source from the total-band mosaic flux map and the local noise. The
authors choose a significance level, snr=4.8, as the detection threshold.
Ctrpart_Name
The counterpart source designation, based on well-known optical source or
X-ray archival data (e.g., Swift-XRT, Chandra, and XMM-Newton).
Ctrpart_RA
The right ascension for the counterpart source, given in degrees for the
J2000.0 epoch. This coordinate is taken from NED or SIMBAD. If no counterpart
if known, the BAT position is listed. In the case of source_type of U2
("Unknown class II") whose soft X-ray coordinate is well-defined with SNR
threshold >3, the Swift-XRT soft X-ray (3-10 keV) detection coordinate is
provided.
Ctrpart_Dec
The declination for the counterpart source, given in degrees for the J2000.0
epoch. This coordinate is taken from NED or SIMBAD. If no counterpart if
known, the BAT position is listed. In the case of source_type of U2 ("Unknown
class II") whose soft X-ray coordinate is well-defined with SNR threshold >3,
the Swift-XRT soft X-ray (3-10 keV) detection coordinate is provided.
Flux
The Swift-BAT 14-195keV flux, in erg/s/cm2. The flux is extracted from the
Swift-BAT maps at the position listed for the counterpart. The fluxes are
measured from the eight BAT bands (14-20 keV, 20-24 keV, 24-35 keV, 35-50
keV, 50-75 keV, 75-100 keV, 100-150 keV, and 150-195 keV) of the mosaicked
maps. For the BAT source whose counterparts are not known, the flux was
measured from the detected BAT source positions using the same eight BAT
bands.
Flux_Lower
The lower 90%-confidence interval in flux, in units of erg/s/cm2.
Flux_Upper
The upper 90%-confidence interval in flux, in units of erg/s/cm2.
Spectral_Index
The spectral photon index, gamma, computed from a power-law fit, using the
XSPEC pegpwrlaw model, power-law with pegged normalization) to the eight-band
BAT data.
Spectral_Index_Lower
The lower 90%-confidence interval in the spectral_index, gamma, which is
computed from a power-law fit, using the XSPEC pegpwrlaw model, power-law
with pegged normalization) to the eight-band BAT data. The 90%-confidence
interval was calculated based on the error function, within XSPEC. The
HEASARC changed values of "0.00" for this parameter to nulls.
Spectral_Index_Upper
The upper 90%-confidence interval in the spectral_index, gamma, which is
computed from a power-law fit, using the XSPEC pegpwrlaw model, power-law
with pegged normalization) to the eight-band BAT data. The 90%-confidence
interval was calculated based on the error function, within XSPEC. The
HEASARC changed values of "0.00" for this parameter to nulls.
Chi_Squared
The reduced chi squared of the spectral fit.
Redshift
The redshift of the source, taken from the online databases NED and SIMBAD or
in a few cases, from the authors' analysis of the optical data.
Log_Lx
The logarithm of Swift-BAT X-ray 14-195keV luminosity, in erg/s, for sources
classified as AGNs. The luminosities are computed using the flux and
redshift, given in this catalog, and assume the following cosmology: H0=70
km/s/Mpc, Omegam=0.30, and OmegaLambda=0.70.
Ctrpart_Class
The classification of the counterpart given by the following codes:
10 = Unknown class indicates that the authors do not know source type of the optical counterpart (35 occurrences). Unknown class I ("U1") is used when there is no soft X-ray (3-10keV) detection despite its archival soft X-ray observation; 11 = Unknown class II ("U2") indicates sources for which there is a soft X-ray detection with SNR threshold greater than 3 from archival soft X-ray observation (55 occurrences). When available, the authors list their 2MASS counterpart source matched within 5 arcsec of angular distance in Table 2; 12 = Unknown class III includes sources without archival soft X-ray observations (38 occurrences); 15 = Multiple class indicates the case where there are more than one soft X-ray detection (10 occurrences); 20 = Galactic center: Sagittarius A*; 30 = Galaxy Cluster (26 occurrences); 40 = Seyfert I (Sy1; Sy 1.0-1.8; 512 occurrences) includes high-z broad-line AGN (N=2); 50 = Seyfert II (Sy2; Sy 1.9-2.0; 317 occurrences) includes Sy2 candidates (10 occurrences) that present narrow emission lines in their optical spectral energy distribution; 60 = LINER (6 occurrences); 70 = Unknown AGN: X-ray sources associated with galaxies whose optical spectra and type classifications are not known (114 occurrences); 80 = Beamed AGN (Blazar/FSRQ; 156 occurrences); 90 = Cataclysmic Variable ("CV") star (75 occurrences); 100 = Symbiotic star (4 occurrences); 110 = Other star (13 occurrences); 120 = Open star cluster (1 occurrence); 130 = Starburst galaxy: M82; 140 = Compact group of galaxies: Arp 318; 150 = Pulsar (25 occurrences); 160 = Supernova remnant (SNR; 7 occurrences); 170 = Nova (6 occurrences); 180 = High mass X-ray binary (HMXB; 108 occurrences); 190 = Low mass X-ray binary (LMXB; 109 occurrences); 200 = Other X-ray binary (XRB; 8 occurrences); 210 = Globular Cluster (GC; 1 occurrence); 220 = Molecular cloud (2 occurrences); 230 = Gamma-ray source (1 occurrence).
