THE BL LAC OBJECT PKS 1413+135: EMBEDDED IN A SPIRAL GALAXY ?
ABSTRACT
We propose ASCA observations of the BL Lac object PKS 1413+135 embedded in a spiral (S0) galaxy. The object has been observed by VLBI and HST. Perlman et al., who conducted the VLBI observations, obtained triple hotspots images. They argue it possibly supports the gravitational lense model for BL Lac objects which is proposed by Ostriker and Vieti (1990). On the contrary, McHardy et al., having carried out the HST observation, report there is no evidence of gravitational lensed images. We proposed to measure the X-ray spectrum of this source to determine whether it comes from a pure BL Lac object or from an OVV quasar. The ASCA results will provide an important information to the argument and the unified model of AGNs.
