SOLVING THE MYSTERY OF RADIO-TWINKLING QUASAR PKS 0405-385
ABSTRACT
Radio-loud quasar PKS 0405-385 (z=1.285) emits a radio signal fluctuating as much as 60 438272n half an hour at wavelength of 3 cm. In order to account for its output of radio waves and other radiations (including gamma rays) from such a compact system, a temperature of about 10^20 K is needed. Now this source is considered to be an extreme form of blazar or the interstellar scintillation is causing the rapid radio fluctuations. We propose 100 ksec observations of this source with ASCA to see the time variation in X-ray band deliberately and to make clear the physical properties of this source.
