AN ASCA STUDY OF COMPOSITE SUPERNOVA REMNANTS
ABSTRACT
The broad energy range and imaging capabilities of ASCA have provided a new tool to study the evolution and classification of supernova remnants (SNRs) in detail. Composite remnants in particular, have proven to be one of the most revealing field of study. We propose to study 2 composite supernova remnants: G16.7+0.1 and G18.95-1.1. Both present indications, deduced from radio data, of an existing compact object and have been shown to be X-ray emitters. The proposed observations will help to identify unambiguously the compact object inferred from the radio profiles and to determine their characteristics. In addition, we will analyze the emission from the rest of the SNRs to study the parameters of their dynamical evolution.
