OBSERVATIONS OF RADIO POPULOUS ABELL CLUSTERS AT Z

ABSTRACT

High resolution, high sensitivity VLA observations indicate a dramatic increase in the number of radio sources in high blue fraction clusters at z=0.2 relative to clusters at the present epoch. This apparent connection to the Butcher-Oemler effect indicates that whatever is causing color evolution in these clusters, may be stimulating excess AGN activity as well. Due to the relatively short lifetimes for radio sources, it is possible to catch these systems at a very interesting dynamical state. We propose to obtain ASCA observations to determine the X-ray temperature and possible multi-component state of the ICM for three extremely radio populous clusters.
