THE OBSERVATION OF SGR0526-66
ABSTRACT
We have analyzed all the archival data of LMC observed by ASCA and detected a weak sign of pulsation from N49 = SGR0526-66. This sources is one of the four known Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters, and the detection of pulsation from a SGR plays a critical role in the discussion of their association with AXPs, or Anomalous X-ray Pulsars. We propose the observation of SGR0526-66, which we believe is the most appropriate target to test the hypothesis that SGRs are the earliest phase in the evolution of magnetars, followed by a phase in which they appear as AXPs.
