TESTING THE ACCRETION DISK SCENARIO FOR DOUBLE-PEAKED BROAD LINE RADIO GALAXIES

ABSTRACT

Contrary to radio-quiet AGN, the evidence for an accretion disk in radio-loud AGN is, at most, sparse. In particular, Fe-K line emission around 6.4 keV is either absent or only marginally detected. On the other hand, double-peaked H alpha emission has been discovered in a few radio-loud AGN. The most promising explanation for the double-peaked structure is that the emission line originates in the putative accretion disk. Here we propose to observe two low-luminosity double-peaked radio galaxies to search for the X-ray signatures of an accretion disk. Our observation will not only be relevant for double-peaked AGN, but will further enhance our knowledge on the innermost region of radio-loud AGN in general and the enigmatic radio-loud/radio-quiet dichotomy.
