A NEW PULSAR/SNR PAIR: PSR J1845-0258 IN G29.6+0.1

ABSTRACT

We propose a deep ASCA observation of the newly discovered 7-s X-ray pulsar, PSR J1845-0258, to determine its timing and spectral parameters. The pulsar lies within a newly discovered radio supernova remnant and is likely the latest addition to the rare class of anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs), but has recently been found to be in a low flux state. The proposed deep observation is necessary to yield a spin and flux measurement, in order to allow a search for an possible enormous period derivative, expected for an AXP, to constrain the pulsar's emission properties and mechanisms.
