Bugs/Features in the ASCA data analysis software

Last updated on 1998 Aug 21

This list is appropriate for ftools v4.1 and supersedes the ASCA bug list for ftools v4.0 Please also check known FTOOLS bugs and known XSPEC bugs.

  • ascaln (v0.9)Please take note if you use ASCALIN to manually modify the gain normalization of photons stored in your GIS event files (i.e., with the gainnorm/gainoffset parameters).
Running the current version of ASCALIN (0.9t) using the "attitude=none" mode does not properly apply the recently introduce GIS radial gain correction. Please specify the attitude file explicitly (e.g. attitude=fa940725_0400.0400) to include this correction when adjusting the GIS file gain.
The latest version of ASCALIN (0.9u) has been updated to include the GIS radial gain correction in all ASCALIN modes.

  • extractorThere is a bug in extractor that causes the CDELT keywords for the WMAP to be set incorrectly if the image coordinates are different from the WMAP coordinates. This bug will become manifest in xselect if sky coordinates are in use (eg if the command "set image sky" is given).

  • extractorThere is a bug in extractor that prevents it extracting products if there are identical keywords in the input FITS event file (this usually happens with HISTORY keywords).

  • ascascreen/xselectWhen ascascreen is run on Rev 1 raw files it fails to find any medium bit rate files. This is actually a bug in xselect.

  • ascaarfWhen ascaarf is run on GIS spectra extracted from event files with 64 x 64 spatial bins then the normalization of the resultant arf is unreliable.

  • Extracting point source spectra using sky coordinates
