HEASARC Staff Scientist Position - Applications are now being accepted for a Staff Scientist with significant experience and interest in the technical aspects of astrophysics research, to work in the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. Refer to the AAS Job register for full details.
IXPE Proposal Tools
Proposal Tools:
The following documentation and applications can be used to
support the preparation of IXPE observing proposals:
- Count Rate and Minimum Detectable Polarization: The standard HEASARC
WebPIMMS tool
is available for IXPE simulations.
- Visibility: The standard HEASARC
Viewing tool
can be used to determine target visibilities for IXPE.
- User contributed software: In addition to the standard HEASoft FTOOLs the user-contributed software
package ixpeobssim can be also be used to produce realistic simulated observations for IXPE observing proposals.
See here for more details.
Upcoming IXPE Observations:
The current long term plan for IXPE can be accessed here on the IXPE project website.
Past IXPE Observations:
The as run target list for IXPE can be found here on the IXPE project website.
After the completion of science observations, IXPE data are processed at MSFC and archived at the HEASARC. See here for more details on how to access IXPE data.
Unsolicited IXPE Target of Opportunity (ToO) Observations:
Unsolicited ToO requests for transient and unpredictable phenomena, from both known and previously unknown
sources, can be made using the IXPE ToO request form on the IXPE project website.
