The High Energy Year in Review
It is only fitting and right at the turning of a new year to look back on all that's been accomplished in the year past. It's been quite a year, that no one can deny. A year rich in discovery. An asymmetric supernova shooting out a hypervelocity neutron star like a big black marble; titanic collisions of galaxies tearing apart light matter from dark; an eclipse of a supermassive black hole; a beautiful X-ray mosaic of the Carina Nebula; and the twentieth anniversary of the nearest supernova in 400 years. A marvelous year of exploration thanks to the complement of high energy instrumentation flying in the heavens above us: RXTE, Chandra, XMM-Newton, INTEGRAL, Swift, Suzaku, and AGILE. And let's remember auld acquaintances unforgotten in our hearts and archives. And as we lay our heads upon our pillow tonight, let's dream of the new wonders to be revealed when GLAST joins the fleet in 2008.
