Happy Birthday RXTE
On December 30 2005 the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer celebrated its 10th anniversary. RXTE is a small space observatory dedicated to monitoring X-ray emission from variable sources with the highest time resolution possible. During its 10 year operational life, RXTE has shown how spinning masses drag spacetime around, watched "earthquakes" on neutron stars, kept a constant eye on all the bright variable sources in the Universe, seen stars explode and erupt, and studied a host of other violent and remarkable phenomena. RXTE is a joint collaboration of the Goddard Space Flight Center, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of California, San Diego.
