The programs which access the observation data sets require the files to be renamed with a strict convention: for the PSPC these are four files from Rev0 German data sets, five files from Rev0 US data sets, and two from Rev2 RDF data sets. (From here on, the data will be referred to simply as German, US, or RDF.) Table 1 lists the required files and the naming convention. The input file names are listed as found in archived data sets for German and US formatted data, and as the Data Products Guide refers to them for the RDF files. The asterisk (*) stands for the prefix which goes along with US and RDF data set file names; the ``xxx'' string stands for any string up to eight (8) characters long, which must be the same for all files and which is queried for by the programs. For pathetic operating systems which are case sensitive, the upper-case letters in the files names are significant.

The header information contained in the image fits files produced by the code have a limited amount of information included. However, the headers should be sufficient for most purposes. Appendix A shows a sample PSPC header, that of the final count-rate image in the R4 band.
