Abell 2256 is a collection of more than 500 galaxies
a billion light years
distant and 10 million light years across. The X-rays originate in a hot
80 million degree plasma which fills the region between the galaxies.
This ROSAT image shows the double structure in the center of the field,
which shows the merging of two clusters.
