A PSPC mosaic of M31, the Andromeda Nebula. Andromeda is the nearest large galaxy to our own Milkyway galaxy and is a spiral galaxy much like ours. The Andromeda Galaxy is about 2.5 million light-years away from the sun.

This image shows the brightest X-ray sources of our neighboring galaxy. With ROSAT, more than 500 sources in the direction of M31 have been detected, similar in number to the Milky Way sources detected by the first sky survey carried out by UHURU (1971).
