The Moon

The Moon

This image of the Moon was taken by the ROSAT PSPC on 29 June 1990. The data have been corrected for the Moon's parallax but not for the effects of telescope vignetting and exposure differences. Black pixels denote no counts. The sunlit portion of the Moon is visible, as well as a distinct X-ray shadow in the diffuse X-ray background cast by the dark side of the Moon.
