fitsTcl: A TCL interface to FITS Files

fitsTcl is an extension to the TCL language, providing simple access to astronomical data stored in FITS file format. fitsTcl implements a Tcl interface to the CFITSIO library, developed by the HEASARC (High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. fitsTcl is primarily distributed as part of the fv FITS file editor, but it is also available as a stand-alone source code package below. The latest version is 2.5, released December 2022.

For more information, please see the User's Guide.

Downloading fitsTcl:

The fitsTcl source code requires two additional packages which are not included in the download below:

  • TCL: fitsTcl should build with any version of Tcl8. When building fitsTcl, you will need to provide the location of the Tcl header file (tcl.h) to the configure script using the --with-tcl-includes option.

  • CFITSIO: When building fitsTcl, you will also need to provide the location of the CFITSIO source code directory to the configure script using the --with-cfitsio option.
  • fitsTcl 2.5 Source Code Distribution (168 KB)
