Fv - The astronomical image viewer

While most of the HEASARC software is geared towards advanced scientific users, there is one program called "fv" that is suitable for amateur astronomers and educators for viewing astronomical images. Fv is available for PCs, Macs, and Unix workstations. Fv provides powerful image display facilities for panning and zooming, brightness and contrast adjustment, and blinking of images in FITS format. FITS is the standard data format used by professional astronomers, and increasingly, by amateur astrophotographers using CCD cameras. Preview the capabilities of fv or download the software.
