FUSE cycle 2 NRA & Call for Proposals Released
The Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) project is
pleased to bring to your attention the release of the call for
proposals for the second year of general observations ("cycle 2").
The NASA Research Announcement (NRA 00-OSS-05) was released on May 10
and calls for Letters of Intent to be submitted by June 12. Proposal
are due to NASA by July 14.
The FUSE satellite performs high-resolution spectroscopy of
the far ultraviolet (905-1187 Å) spectral region with high
sensitivity. Although FUSE is a PI-Class mission, the majority of the
remaining FUSE observing time is available to the general astronomical
community. The FUSE Guest Investigator (GI) Program is intended to
enhance the scientific return from the mission by drawing on the
astronomical community to use FUSE to conduct independent
investigations. Approximately 3600 kiloseconds of on-target exposure
time will be allocated to GI programs in Cycle 2.
The FUSE GI program is open to qualified scientists from all
categories of organizations, both US and foreign, including
educational institutions, NASA centers, commercial and not-for-profit
organizations, and other government agencies.
