High Energy Astrophysics Approved Guest Observer/Investigator Programs & Targets


Recent High-Energy Astrophysics AOs/NRAs for which Lists of Accepted Targets/Proposals are Now Available (listed in reverse chronological order of release)

* Peer Review recommended Chandra X-Ray Observatory (CXO) Cycle 26 targets and proposals for observations to be carried out in a twelve-month period beginning about January 2025, including Guaranteed Time and Guest Observer proposals, Multicycle, Large and Very Large proposals, as well as Joint proposals with HST, NuSTAR, NOAO, NRAO, Swift and XMM-Newton. Note: Archive and Theory proposals are no longer supported by the project. (Released Sep 6, 2024).

* XRISM Cycle 1 (AO1) approved targets. The list of AO1 approved targets (in response to the XRISM Cycle 1 call for Type-1 proposals) is now publicly available on the XRISM Proposals webpage. Cycle 1 observations will be initiated about August, 2024 and will last for a period of approximately 12 months.(Released Aug 1, 2024).

* NuSTAR Cycle 10 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 10 (June 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025). The NuSTAR project expects to be able to observe approximately 50% of Category C targets. (Released Apr 22, 2024).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-23 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2024 through April 2025. (Released Dec 11, 2023).

* Approved NICER Cycle 6 Guest Observer Program for observations starting March 1, 2024. (Released Nov 29, 2023).

* Peer Review recommended Chandra X-Ray Observatory (CXO) Cycle 25 targets and proposals for observations to be carried out in a twelve-month period beginning about January 2024, including Guaranteed Time and Guest Observer proposals, Multicycle, Archive and Theory proposals, Large proposals, as well as Joint proposals with HST, NuSTAR, NOAO, NRAO, Swift and XMM-Newton. (Released July 24, 2023).

* NuSTAR Cycle 9 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 9 (June 1, 2023 - May 31, 2024). The NuSTAR project expects to be able to observe approximately 50% of Category C targets. (Released Apr 17, 2023).

* Approved NICER Cycle 5 Guest Observer Program for observations starting March 1, 2022. (Released Dec 23, 2022).

* Approved INTEGRAL AO-20 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the 12 month period starting Jan 1, 2023. (Released Dec 05, 2022).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-22 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2023 through April 2024. (Released Nov 24, 2022).

* Peer Review recommended Chandra X-Ray Observatory (CXO) Cycle 24 targets and proposals for observations to be carried out in a twelve-month period beginning about January 2023, including Guaranteed Time and Guest Observer proposals, Multicycle, Archive and Theory proposals, Large proposals, as well as Joint proposals with HST, NuSTAR, NOAO, NRAO, Swift and XMM-Newton. (Released July 26, 2022).

* NuSTAR Cycle 8 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 8 (June 1, 2022 - May 31, 2023). The NuSTAR project expects to be able to observe approximately 50% of Category C targets. (Released Apr 22, 2022).

* Approved NICER Cycle 4 Guest Observer Program for observations starting March 1, 2022. (Released Feb 23, 2022).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-21 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2022 through April 2023. (Released Dec 9, 2021).

* Peer Review recommended Chandra X-Ray Observatory (CXO) Cycle 23 targets and proposals for observations to be carried out in a twelve-month period beginning about January 2022, including Guaranteed Time and Guest Observer proposals, Multicycle, Archive and Theory proposals, Large proposals, as well as Joint proposals with HST, NuSTAR, NOAO, NRAO, Swift and XMM-Newton. * Approved INTEGRAL AO-19 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the 12 month period starting Jan 1, 2022. (Released June 22, 2021).

* NuSTAR Cycle 7 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 7 (June 1, 2021 - May 31, 2022). The NuSTAR project expects to be able to observe approximately 50% of Category C targets. (Released Apr 26, 2021).

* Approved NICER Cycle 3 Guest Observer Program for observations starting March 1, 2021. (Released Feb 4, 2021).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-20 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2021 through April 2022. (Released Dec 4, 2020).

* Approved INTEGRAL AO-17 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the 12 month period starting Jan 1, 2020. (Released July 15, 2019).

* NuSTAR Cycle 5 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 4 (June 1, 2019 - May 31, 2020). * Swift Cycle 15 recommended proposals, including both proposals for funding only and observing proposals, and targets; accepted Cycle 15 ToO proposals may be triggered until March 31, 2020. (Released Feb 1, 2019).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-18 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2019 through April 2020. (Released Nov 28, 2018).

* Peer Review recommended Chandra X-Ray Observatory (CXO) Cycle 20 targets and proposals for observations to be carried out in a twelve-month period beginning about January 2019, including Guaranteed Time and Guest Observer proposals, Multicycle, Archive and Theory proposals, Large proposals, as well as Joint proposals with HST, NuSTAR, NOAO, NRAO, Swift and XMM-Newton. (Released Jul 10, 2018).

* NuSTAR Cycle 4 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 4 (June 1, 2018 - May 31, 2019). The NuSTAR project expects to be able to observe approximately 50% of Category C targets. (Released Apr 19, 2018).

* Swift Cycle 14 recommended proposals, including both proposals for funding only and observing proposals, and targets; accepted Cycle 14 ToO proposals may be triggered until March 31, 2019. (Released Feb 1, 2018).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-17 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2018 through April 2019. (Released Nov 29, 2017).

* Peer Review recommended Chandra X-Ray Observatory (CXO) Cycle 19 targets and proposals for observations to be carried out in a twelve-month period beginning about January 2018, including Guaranteed Time and Guest Observer proposals, Multicycle, Archive and Theory proposals, Large proposals, as well as Joint proposals with HST, NuSTAR, NOAO, NRAO, Swift and XMM-Newton. (Released Jul 10, 2017).

* Recommended INTEGRAL AO-15 General Program of Observations to be carried out in the 12-month period starting around Jan 1, 2018. (Released Jun 8, 2017).

* Selected Stage-I Fermi Cycle 10 Guest Investigator Program proposals (Released May 31, 2017).

* NuSTAR Cycle 3 recommended category A, B, or C targets. Both Category A and B targets are guaranteed to be observed, but only Category A targets that are time-constrained are guaranteed to be observed in Cycle 3 (June 1, 2017 - May 31, 2018). The NuSTAR project expects to be able to observe approximately 50% of Category C targets. (Released May 10, 2017).

* Swift Cycle 13 recommended proposals, including both proposals for funding only and observing proposals, and targets; accepted Cycle 13 ToO proposals may be triggered until March 31, 2018. (Released Jan 23, 2017).

* Approved XMM-Newton AO-16 Guest Observer Program for observations to be carried out during the period from May 2017 through April 2018. (Released Dec 2, 2016).
