Purpose: Cast modelled particle background counts in sky coordinates
with the same pixel size as the vignetting-corrected exposure maps and
event images. Individual maps are cast of the total counts from the
internally produced component, two externally produced components, and the
afterpulse component (if the input value is non-zero). The counts are
separated into the various bands when the program FINAL_IMAGE is run.
Note that the total number of particle background counts (an output of
this program) is needed for the program FIT_AP and that the result of
FIT_AP is needed as an input to this program. This circular relationship
is resolved simply by running CAST_PART first with zero for the afterpulse
input, and killing the program after it produces the value for the total
number of particle background counts. FIT_AP can then be run to determine
the number of afterpulse events, which can then be fed back to CAST_PART.
File Input:
1) Observation data set fits files - xxx_ATTITUDE.FITS and
xxx_EVENTRATES.FITS for German or US data, xxx_ANC.FITS for RDF data.
2) After the selection of the gain state and detector (see Interactive
Inputs 3) and 4) below), the
program will read in the appropriate particle background detector map
(see § 2.1 for the names and location of the particle background detector
maps).
3) Other fixed input - valid_times.dat modified as desired from the
output of program VALID_TIMES. This must be the same time selection as
used with the programs CAST_DATA, CAST_EXP, LTE, and TILT.
The diagnostic information file xxx_diag.out produced initially by
CAST_DATA will have additional data appended to it.
Interactive Input:
1) Observation control - the eight or fewer character string listed above
as xxx.
2) Data format control - 1 for German data, 2 for US data,
3 for RDF data.
3) Detector control - 1 for PSPC C (before 26 January 1991, S/C clock
20530000), 2 for PSPC B (after 26 January 1991).
4) Gain control - 1 for high gain, 2 for low gain.
5) Number of afterpulse events - derived by the program FIT_AP.
6) Nominal pointing direction - the nominal pointing direction (in decimal
degrees) taken from the observation data set hard copy or the
header information of the observation data set fits files.
Ascii Output:
1) Diagnostic output - information about the number of counts from each
component, see 3) of File Input.
Image Output:
1-4) Fits files of the particle background counts from the
internally produced component (partin.fits), two externally produced
components (partex1.fits, partex2.fits), and afterpulse component if the
input number of afterpulse events was non-zero (partap.fits).
