PSPC plus mirror response matrices are now available as part of the multi-mission legacy/caldb (calibration database) area. The caldb area is accessible via anonymous FTP to textttheasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov under texttt/caldb/data/rosat/pspc/cpf (cpf stands for calibration product file). The matrices are available as FITS format (with texttt.rmf extensions) as:

The ``matrix'' is a convolution of the detector effective area vector, photon redistribution matrix, and PSPC window vector (which includes the window-support wire mesh transmission). GSFC has software to convolve the boron filter response and vignetting functions with the matrices, as required. The FITS matrices are compatible with old style SF PHA files, or new FITS PHA files for XSPEC versions 8.2 and later. The difference should not be noticeable once inside XSPEC. The advantage of the FITS formats is that they remove the need to transport the files as ascii (and hence remove the need for rdrsp and mkrsp).
