HEASARC News: NuSTAR archive opening at HEASARC

NUSTAR ARCHIVE OPENING AT HEASARC

The Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array mission (NuSTAR),
launched on June 13, 2012, is NASA's latest high-energy astrophysics
observatory, the first to do hard X-ray imaging with focusing
optics. NuSTAR is a Small Explorer mission: Fiona Harrison (Caltech)
is the Principal Investigator and Daniel Stern (JPL) the Project
Scientist. The HEASARC's role is to provide general access for the
NuSTAR data as it becomes public during and after the 24-month
primary mission phase, and to become the permanent repository for
the mission data, software, and technical expertise after the
mission ends. The NuSTAR data archive at the HEASARC opens on Aug
29, 2013, with 29 sample data sets from observations of a variety of
objects. NuSTAR will be the 30th high-energy astrophysics mission
with data archived at the HEASARC.

By early 2014, the HEASARC NuSTAR Archive will contain hundreds of
observations, with data going public no more than 2 months after the
observation is completed. The NuSTAR data analysis software
('nustardas', written by ASI & Caltech personnel ) is a new
sub-package in the HEASARC's FTOOLS/HEASoft multi-mission software
as of the last release (FTOOLS v.6.14, 7 August 2013), and a data
analysis software guide is now available.
